MEMBERSHIP

The International League of Humanists is not a massive organization. Founders of the Movement and creators of humanistic principles and tenets established special criteria for admitting persons of legal age to the League. A candidate should be committed to democracy and should base his or her creativity and activities on the fundamental principles of humanism and moral principles, which is established by specially designed methods for at least four years. These criteria help the Movement protect itself from the "membership" which is not worthy of the founder of the Movement and his ideas. Up to five candidates from the same country may be admitted to the membership in the course of one year.

In the Dubrovnik – Philadelphia Statement, Academician Ivan Supek defined the principles called “Humanistic Morality” which were accepted by the Congress. By respecting and accepting each of these principles, the Movement and all of its members and associates, will give the best possible contribution of using the humanistic tenets as accepted paths in development of humane civilization and true peace in the world.

HUMANISTIC MORALITY

1. Respecting a human
The primary principal on which is based all other principles is respect of a human being, protection of his dignity and honor, and protection of family right. This principle advances mutual understanding, friendship, cooperation and lasting peace among the people and nations.

2. Impartiality
The ILH does not differentiate the nations, religious, ideologies, politics, races, class and other affiliations. This positive principle of affection without discrimination is opposite to the feelings of superiority or acts of discrimination which most often provoke the conflicts.

3. Neutrality
For the League of humanists, neutrality is a tool not an objective. Neutrality does not mean to be indifferent towards the suffering nor accepting a war. Neutrality is a necessary condition for more effective application of the humanistic tenets and principles and it depends on everybody’s trust.

4. Independence
Independence of the ILH from the public governances, parties, religion communities is important for implementation of the humanistic tenets and principles, for implementation of the Declaration of Trust and other documents.

6. Unity to Work
Is established at the foundation of the humanistic tenets and moral principles. The League unites those people of the world which carry the nobility in their harts, for man, has better and happier future. The ILH is made by people to whom a human life, their freedom, and their future is more important from their personal interest.

6. Universality
Universality of the ILH comes out form the dedication of each of its members to the Primary humanistic tenets and moral principles, on which is based all values that makes everything to work. To accomplish these tenets and principles all the associations, which were established by the League, have an obligation to mutually cooperate and help each other, as well as to accomplish the same rights and responsibilities set by the primary normative acts of the Movement.

THESE PRINCIPLES ARE DISTINCTIVE TO INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE OF HUMANISTS AND TO ALL OF ITS PARTS, ORGANS, BODIES AND INSTITUTIONS. THEY ARE OBLIGED TO RESPECT AND ACCEPT THEM IN THE WORK AND ACTIVITIES.
