International Conference “Southeast European Countries and European Union”

With the aim of spreading the ideas of peace and humanism and the network of concrete peace actions in Southeast Europe, and through implementing the Conclusions of the Fifth Congress of the International League of Humanists (Dubrovnik, October 23-25, 2005), ILH Council for Implementation of Peace and Cooperation Among Peoples and Countries reached a decision to organize an international conference dedicated to the relations between Southeast European countries and European Union.

Acc. Ivan Supek is proclaimed LIFELONG HONORARY RECTOR OF THE INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY "PHILIP NOEL-BAKER", SARAJEVO.

Promotion of the academician Ivan Supek for Honorary Rector of the University "Philip Noel-Baker" held on the 26-th September 2006. in Croatian Culture Club, with the beginning at 10 o’clock, with presence of the admirers and friends. A Ceremony, also with presences of the Mayor of Zagreb, Mr. Milan Bandic and president of HAZU, academician Milan Moguc, is opened by Secretary General of the ILH, Prof. Zdravko Surlan. In the name of University, Rector Stiepo Andrijic, PhD made a speech and presented the Rector's Chain to academician Supek. The first Badge of the University is presented by student Jasmin Mehic. In the name of Council and Senate of the University, Mr. Edin Smajić, Secretary General, read the Decision. Minister of Education and Science of the FBiH, Zijad Pasic, PhD was presenter of the Charter.
In his thanks speech, in carefully chosen words, academician Ivan Supek, thanked for the award, and with modesty, a bigger part of his speech dedicated to his friend and associate, Nobel Prize winner Philip Noel-Baker, with accent on the many peace-making initiatives in world and how politics boycotted them. At the end he is expressed his hopes that in the future it will be more understanding for peace in the world.

On the proposal of Committee for Education and Science of the International League of Humanists, academician Ivan Supek, founder and Honorary President of the International League of Humanists with the special Decision awarded a Golden Charter of Peace "Linus Pauling", with Medallion and Golden badge of the ILH to Prof. Doris Pack in the sign of acknowledgment for contribution for peace in the region with the development of education, science and culture. A ceremony will be hold at the International University "Philip Noel-Baker" 19-th October 2006. at 12,00 o′clock.

Based on Decision of the ILH Council, acc. Ivan Supek has been proclaimed for the first honorary Rector of the International University "Philip Noel-Baker". Proclaiming acc. Ivan Supek for Rector, University "P.N.B." confirms it's strong determination in building of complete B&H, folowing basics and principless of the ILH. For the 30-th anniversary from the founding Congress in Philadelphia, proclamation of acc. Ivan Supek for the first honorary Rector of the University is one more contribution to peace in B&H.

Agreement about cooperation of Budva Municipality and ILH, signed

On the basis of the official nomination to City of Budva for International City of Peace, Humanism and Intercultural Understanding, by the Committee for the nomination of ILH, president of the Budva Municipality, Mr. Rajko Kuljaca and Secretary General of the ILH, 20.07.2006., signed in Budva a PROTOCOL ABOUT MUTUAL COOPERATION OF CITY OF BUDVA AND ILH ON THE IMPLEMENTATION OF THE LONG-TERM PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES FOR PROCLAMATION OF CITY OF BUDVA FOR INTERNATIONAL CITY OF PEACE, HUMANISM AND INTERCULTURAL UNDERSTANDING.

For the purpose of promotion and realization of the Agreement of Mutual Cooperation between the International University "Philip Noel-Baker" and Italian universities, Secretary General visited Milan (Italy) and the following universities: ''Universita' degli Studi di Milano – Bicocca'', ''Universita' Cattolica del Sacro Cuore'', ''Universita' Commerciale Luigi Bocconi'' and ''Fondazione ISMU''. On this occasion, the wish and mutual interest for a long-term cooperation between our and Italian universities were stated.


03 June – 05 June 2006
ILH Delegation lead by Prof. Zdravko Šurlan, Secretary General, visited Budva (Montenegro). The Delegation consisted of Halid Kurtović, Ph.D., and Edin Smajić, MA, informed the Major of Budva municipality about the nomination of the City of Budva for the "International Humanistic City of Peace and Friendship and Intellectual Understanding". The nomination was accepted.

On 24 May 2006 in the Business Centre “UNITIC” the central manifestation of marking 30th Anniversary of First Congress of ILH and promotion of the laureates for the year 2005 was held.

On 19 May 2006 a promotion of the works of the students from secondary schools and Round Table on the topic “Education for 21st Century in the Function of Peace” was held.

Celebration of 30 years since the First Congress of the International League of Humanists (Philadelphia 1976 – Sarajevo 2006)


April 25, 2006
On April 25, 2006 at 10:00 o'clock in the Business Centre «UNITIC» in Sarajevo, was held a media promotion of the International University «Philip Noel-Baker». The promoter of the program was the Rector Dr. Sc. Stiepo Andrijić. Also Ph. D. Robert Donia (University of Michigan, USA) had talked to the participants on the topic “The Importance of Education for the Future of B&H and the Role of I.U. “Philip Noel-Baker” for B&H and the Region”.


THE LAUREATES FOR THE YEAR 2005
By proposal of the Committee for Nomination, the Presidency of ILH had adopted Decision about proclamation of the ILH laureates for the year 2005.

On February 22, 2006 Prof. Meliha Alic, the Presiding of the Canton Sarajevo Assembly with associates had visited the Headquarter of International League of Humanists. The representatives of Sarajevo Canton wished to find out more about the League’s activities in this year, as well as being informed about the initiative to open International University “Philip Noel-Baker” in Sarajevo.

On February 22, 2006 The Minister of Foreign Affairs of B&H, Prof.Dr Mladen Ivanic with associates had received delegation of International University “Philip Noel-Baker” from Sarajevo, lead by the Rector of the University, Dr. Sc Stiepo Andrijic. Delegation informed Minister Ivanic with the objectives and reasons of opening the University and preparations for its start in the academic year 2006/2007. Prof. Andrijic emphasized that this University will not be a competition to the current high-education institutions in B&H, but contribution to the general education reform which must be insured in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

On February 22, 2006, H.E. Henrik Ofstad, the Ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway had organised a lunch for the members of International League of Humanists lead by the Secretary General of ILH, Prof. Zdravko Šurlan. Also, the following guests were present H.E. Werner Almhofer, Ambassador of Austria, Mr. Denis Zvizdic, Premier of the Government of Canton Sarajevo, Mr. Tim Cartwright, Special Representative of the Secretary General of Council of Europe, Mrs. Amra Salkic, Adviser to the Embassy of Great Britain, Mr. Claude Kieffer, OSCE Deputy-Director for Education and Prof.Dr Zijad Pasic, Minister of Education in F B&H. On that occasion all the participants have unreservedly gave support for establishment of the University and evaluated the Elaborate as the best support to the reform of high education.

New President of ILH – Dr Sonja Stiegelbauer

At the meeting held in Graz on February 9th, by the proposal of Acc. Helmut Moritz and Dr Franjo Komarica, Dr Sonja Stiegelbauer was elected as the ILH’s President of the Presidency.

At the ceremony in the Headquarter of ILH in Sarajevo the Decisions about admissions into ILH had been awarded for Prof.Dr Ugo Vlaisavljević, regular professor at the Philosophical Faculty in Sarajevo, Prof.Dr Sadudin Musabegovic, regular professor at the Academy of the Fine Arts in Sarajevo and Suvada Svrakic, Head Nurse in the Clinical Centre of the University in Sarajevo.
The prominent members of ILH were present at the ceremony Prof.Dr Zehra Dizdarevic, Minister of Health in Canton Sarajevo, President of Committee for Humanism and Ethics of ILH, Acc. Arif Tanovic, member of the Standing Committee and Secretary General of ILH Prof. Zdravko Surlan, who explained the Decision about admission.

ARIF AHMETASEVIC HUMANIST OF THE YEAR

At the Tuzla's Gate he lost his daughter but not belief in people

At the presentation ceremony of the highest humanistic award in Tuzla Mr. Arif Ahmetašević was proclaimed as the Humanist of the Year. He was awarded Golden Charter of Peace «Linus Pauling» with Plaque and Golden Badge of International League of Humanists which was presented by H.E. Henrik Ofstad, Norwegian Ambassador in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

VISIT OF ITALIAN TOURIST BUSINESSMEN

Delegation of Italian Tourist businessmen lead by H.E. Mons. Dr Francesco Coccopalmerio, after ILH invitation, had visited for three days Sarajevo and Banja Luka. The purpose of this visit was presentation of tourist potentials of Bosnia and Herzegovina and possibility of establishing cooperation on the projects between ILH and Italy.

In the honour of 80 years of his life and 60 years of his active humanism, Committee for Education and Science of International League of Humanists in Sarajevo had organised promotion of the book “U zbilji vremena – humanistički pogledi”. On that occasion according to the Decision of The Congress from October 25, 2005 Academician Tanovic received Golden Charter of Peace “Linus Pauling” with Plaque and Golden Badge.
