ARCHITECT OF THE PEACE ACCORDING TO
MANKIND'S WISH

JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH
Honorary Ambassador of Sport and Culture of Peace
Sarajevo, December 10, 2005

THANK YOU, DEAR FRIEND JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH

Our dear friend and our dear guest, His Excellency Juan Antonio Samaranch, having been invited by the International League of Humanists, will be staying in Sarajevo, the capital city of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the first international humanist city, and the center of International League of Humanists, from December 9 to December 11, 2005. The motive and reason of his visit is the solemn proclamation of the first international honorary ambassador of sport and culture of peace. The decision to confer such an award upon His Excellency was made because of his immense contribution to building peace, friendship, cooperation among nations and countries through the Olympic Games and was adopted on the World’s Fifth Congress of the Humanist Unity (Dubrovnik, October 23 – 26, 2005). As a token of eternal gratitude for his contribution to the peace mission of the International League of Humanists throughout the world, and especially in Bosnia and Herzegovina, the laureate will be presented with the Golden Charter of Peace “Linus Pauling” with Plaque and ILH. The second, very important reason is the personal wish of His Excellency to receive the honor and tribute of the first international honorary ambassador of sport and culture of peace award here in Sarajevo, in Bosnia and Herzegovina, where the XIV Winter Olympic games were held in 1984 being the first Games after he had assumed the position of the President of International Olympic Committee (in 1980). This is the reason for which the city of Sarajevo, the Sarajevo Canton, the Olympic Committee of BiH, the International Committee of Youth for Sport and Culture of Peace, and all citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina will receive their proven friend and builder of bridges friendship throughout the world with open arms. We address him with gratitude for everything he has done for Bosnia and Herzegovina since 1984 until present day.

THANK YOU, DEAR FRIEND JUAN ANTONIO SAMARANCH.

Charter of Peace "Linus Pauling"

NUSRET ČAUŠEVIĆ, President of the Promotion Organizational Board

WE ALL ARE INVOLVED IN THE PEACE MISSION AND WE ALL ARE THE PROMOTION CEREMONY HOSTS

“Everything that a person achieves in life in any area is the result of his cooperation with other people. It knows how to live with other people, who are different in their religion and ethnicity, and it knows how to live for other people. If this fundamental idea of living with others and for others is lost, you become poor. Can you be happy and content if others around you are suffering and struggling? Can you work, build and create if there is no peace, safety and stability in the country? Selfishness destroys everything nowadays. In my personal opinion, giving is God’s gift. If God did not bestow that on a person, it is not that person’s fault. Selfishness leads to isolation of a person, causes envy, hatred and dissension. Hasn’t the war behind us demonstrated what it means to live for others and with others…What the meaning of solidarity and support to those expecting some is… Wishing to help us when we were besieged without a thing in the world, many peace makers arriving in our country risked their lives, and a number of them were killed only because they wanted to help others in need.“- said Nusret Čaušević, and added: „That is my answer to all those asking me or themselves why I have joined the mission of peace with the International League of Humanists. Who does not need peace nowadays? Isn’t it that Bosnia and Herzegovina needs peace? Think about it. Because of that we need to perceive every visit of our dear friends to our country, (such as His Excellency Mahathir, or His Excellency Juan Antonio Samaranch, and many others) as their visit to our own homes. All of us, who perceive this county as our only homeland, should be proud of their visit and entertain them in accordance with our traditional hospitality. We are all, more or less, in our own individual ways, the hosts of every foreign visitor, especially on this kind of occasions.
